Yonkaido is a rare four-story wooden building constructed in a pseudo-Western style, dating back to 1879, making it one of the oldest Western-style buildings in Yamaguchi Prefecture. Historically a key maritime transportation point, it was originally built as a guesthouse and accommodation facility. Admire the intricate architecture, including stucco carvings of Chinese lions and peonies on the third floor, a phoenix on the fourth-floor ceiling, and French stained glass windows. Located in Murotsu, Kamiseki, it's a 5-minute walk from the 'Murotsu' bus stop (approx. 50-min bus ride from JR Yanai Station). Open for free viewing, it offers a glimpse into Meiji-era architecture.
