Ueno Tenmangu Shrine, also known as Sugawara Shrine, is located in Iga, Mie Prefecture, and is dedicated to Sugawara no Michizane, the god of learning. The shrine is famous for the Ueno Tenjin Festival held annually from October 23rd to 25th, a well-known festival in Mie Prefecture. Noteworthy features include the Roumon gate, constructed by the Todo family, and the bell tower, offering a glimpse into the shrine's history. The main hall was rebuilt in 2012 after a fire. The shrine is also significant as a place where the haiku master Basho dedicated his first work. Located a short walk from Iga Railway's Hirokoji Station, it's an accessible and culturally rich site to visit any time of day.
