The Katsuura Morning Market, considered one of Japan's three major morning markets, has a history dating back to 1591. It's held in two locations: Shimohommachi (1st-15th of the month) and Nakamachi (16th-end of the month). Here, you can find locals selling fresh seasonal produce, seafood, and local crafts. Though some visitors find it smaller and less vibrant than other famous markets, it offers an authentic glimpse into local life. Visit in the morning for the best selection and atmosphere. Note that the market is closed on Wednesdays and January 1st.
