Kamihashira Shrine

Overview

Kamihashira Shrine, founded in 1026 and relocated to its current site in 1873, serves as the main guardian shrine of Miyakonojo. Dedicated to Amaterasu Omikami and Toyouke Hime Okami, it's believed to grant blessings for family safety, good fortune, business prosperity, protection from evil, and longevity. Located a 10-minute walk from Miyakonojo Station, the shrine features a large torii gate and a peaceful park-like setting. Visitors can enjoy a relaxing stroll and appreciate the serene atmosphere. The shrine is particularly known for its significant torii gate, considered one of the largest in Japan, making it a symbol of Miyakonojo.
