The Nanatsugama Observatory in Karatsu, Saga Prefecture, offers stunning views of the Nanatsugama sea caves, a natural monument formed by the erosion of the Genkai Sea. These basaltic caves, resembling a row of seven stoves, feature unique columnar jointing. While accessible by land via a short walk from the parking area, boat tours from Yobuko Port provide a closer look, even entering the caves when sea conditions permit. The best time to visit is during calmer weather to enjoy the boat tours and fully appreciate the rugged coastal scenery. The observatory is free to access and offers barrier-free facilities, including acceptance of guide dogs.
