Overview

The Ōtomo no Yakamochi Statue is located in the plaza in front of the Takaoka Station North Exit. It commemorates Ōtomo no Yakamochi, a prominent poet of the Manyoshu anthology, who served as the governor of Etchu Province for five years. The statue depicts Yakamochi with two young girls, inspired by his poems about the local scenery and people. It's a great spot to learn about the area's literary history and snap a photo while exploring the station area. The statue is accessible via the pedestrian bridge from the station's north exit.
