Oyu is the central and most famous of Nozawa Onsen's traditional bathhouses, easily recognizable by its striking traditional wooden architecture. Located in the heart of the village, it's a short walk from the central bus terminal and the Yu Road moving walkway to the ski slopes. The bathhouse features separate pools of hot and very hot spring water, known for its therapeutic properties. Be aware that even the 'lukewarm' bath can be quite hot! A visit to Oyu offers an authentic glimpse into Japanese onsen culture. Open from early morning until late evening (hours vary seasonally), it's the perfect way to relax after a day of skiing or exploring the village.
