Shimoda Park, located on the site of the former Ushima Castle, offers panoramic views and historical landmarks nestled within its wooded grounds. It's easily accessible, just a 15-minute walk from Izukyu Shimoda Station. The park is known for its stunning display of hydrangeas, with approximately 150,000 plants and 3 million blooms during the Hydrangea Festival from June 1st to June 30th. The park also hosts a memorial ceremony for the Black Ship Festival on the third Saturday of May. With free admission, visitors can explore historical sites and enjoy the scenic beauty of Shimoda Port. Note that the park has both paved and unpaved areas, and some steep slopes, so comfortable shoes are recommended.
