Shimizu no Sakura is a magnificent, approximately 300-year-old cherry tree located in a cemetery just outside of Kaizu, Makino. While Kaizu-Osaki's cherry blossom avenue is more famous, Shimizu no Sakura offers a quieter, more contemplative viewing experience. Featured in Minakami Tsutomu's novel "Sakuramori," this ancient tree is a local favorite, known for its beautiful blossoms. It's best visited during the cherry blossom season, typically a bit earlier than Kaizu-Osaki. The site is a short walk from the Kaizu-Osaki bus stop (accessible from Makino Station), or a 30-minute walk from the station itself; rental bicycles are recommended. Limited parking is available nearby.
