Overview

Niutsuhime Shrine, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2004, is deeply connected to Koyasan and enshrines Niutsuhime no Okami. Legend says that two dogs, one white and one black, guided Kobo Daishi to Koyasan. The shrine is known for its beautiful vermilion-lacquered bridge and the main hall, which is the largest of its kind. Visit during the New Year's Eve for a special illuminated experience or attend the grand Hanamori Festival on the second Sunday of April. Located in Katsuragi, Wakayama, it's accessible by community bus from Kaseda Station.
