Gotō Shinpei Memorial Museum

Overview

The Gotō Shinpei Memorial Museum in Oshu, Iwate, is dedicated to the life and achievements of Shinpei Gotō, a prominent statesman from the Meiji and Taisho eras. Located a 15-minute walk from Mizusawa Station, the museum showcases a wide range of documents, photographs, and publications that highlight Gotō's contributions to the modernization of Japan. Visitors can explore exhibits detailing his roles as head of the Taiwan Government-General, president of the South Manchuria Railway, and mayor of Tokyo. The museum also features historical materials related to political history, offering insights into the Taisho and Showa periods. Open from 9:00 to 16:30, it's an ideal destination for history enthusiasts. Note that the museum is closed on Mondays (or the following day if Monday is a holiday) and from December 29th to January 3rd. Admission is ¥200 for adults, with discounts for groups of 15 or more; high school students and younger children enter free.
