En'ō-ji Temple, located in Nakatsu's temple district, was founded in 1587 by Kuroda Kanbei. The temple is renowned for its Kappa (water sprite) legend, where a priest converted mischievous Kappa to Buddhism, and they, in turn, protected the temple from fire. Visitors can explore the Kappa's grave and pond within the grounds. The main hall is a modern concrete structure, but the temple retains a unique charm with roof tiles featuring the character for "water." It's a peaceful spot to explore while wandering through the temple district.
