Kiryu Tenmangu Shrine, located at the northern end of Kiryu's historic district, is a venerable shrine with roots stretching back nearly 1900 years. Rebuilt in 1789, the shrine features impressive carvings on its main hall, designated as a nationally important cultural property. Visitors can also admire a large ginkgo tree on the grounds. Known locally for its monthly antique market held on the first Saturday, the shrine offers a chance to discover unique treasures. It's a peaceful spot to explore traditional architecture and local culture, especially beautiful in the autumn when the ginkgo leaves turn golden. The shrine is dedicated to Sugawara no Michizane and is known for bestowing blessings of academic success, good fortune, and safety.
