The Oniningyousama are large, protective straw dolls, some reaching 4 meters in height, traditionally placed as guardians against evil spirits along the old Iwaki Road. While once found in five locations from Miharu to Iwaki, they are now primarily seen in the Ashizawa and Horikoshi districts of Funahiki Town. A notable Oniningyousama is located inside Funahiki Station on the JR Ban'etsu East Line, ensuring the safety of travelers. These figures, armed with naginata or swords, stand as symbols of protection and local tradition. The Horikoshi doll is unique for being sheltered under a roof.
