The Former Gennaruiin Garden, now part of the Hakusan Heisenji Shrine's office, offers a serene escape into history. Rebuilt by the monk Kenkai after the destruction of Heisenji by the Ikko-ikki uprising, this garden is believed to have been created around 1530 by Hosokawa Takakuni. Designated as a National Site of Scenic Beauty, the garden features a meticulously arranged karesansui (dry landscape) with skillfully incorporated natural stones. The garden is located a short walk from the Heisenji-guchi bus stop, accessible from Katsuyama Station. Visitors can enjoy a peaceful stroll through this historic site, admiring the moss-covered landscape and unique stone arrangements. Note that the garden may be closed during winter.
