The Myogi Shrine Sōmon Gate, located in Tomioka, Gunma Prefecture, is a striking vermilion structure marking the entrance to Myogi Shrine. Known as one of the largest gates in the Kanto region, it stands 12 meters tall and is adorned with vibrant colors and guardian statues. This impressive gate, designated as an important cultural property, leads to a steep stone staircase towards the main shrine. In spring, the surrounding weeping cherry trees add to the picturesque scenery. Note that the path to the gate involves a steep climb, so comfortable shoes are recommended.
