Tanzan Shrine, located in Sakurai, Nara, is historically significant as the site where Nakatomi Kamatari and Prince Naka no Ōe discussed the Taika Reform. The shrine's unique wooden Thirteen-Story Pagoda, a designated Important Cultural Property, is a must-see. The vermilion-lacquered main hall, which served as a model for Nikko Toshogu Shrine, is also noteworthy. Famous for its stunning autumn foliage, the shrine hosts Kemari festivals in spring and autumn. It is accessible by bus from Sakurai Station, followed by a short walk. Entry fees are required.
