Kintaro Playing Stone

Overview

The Kintaro Playing Stone, located in Minamiashigara, Kanagawa Prefecture, features two large stones—the Taiko Stone and Kabuto Stone—where the legendary Kintaro is said to have played as a child. Situated in a rice field near Kintaro's birthplace and the Sunset Falls, where he supposedly had his first bath, these stones offer a glimpse into local folklore. Visitors can easily access the site via a short bus ride from Daiyuzan Station followed by a brief walk. The area, part of the Hakone Geopark, includes informative displays about the stones' geological composition and charming decorations around the site, making it a delightful spot for a quick visit while exploring the Kintaro-themed historical sites.
