The Saruiwa, or Monkey Stones, are a set of four intriguing stone figures located near the tomb of Kibi-hime no Okimi in Asuka, Nara Prefecture. These stones, named for their resemblance to monkeys, are believed by some to depict foreign dignitaries. Discovered in a nearby rice field during the Edo period, their original purpose and the exact date of their creation remain a mystery, adding to their allure. Three of the statues have faces carved on both sides. Visitors can view the stones from outside a fence at the tomb site. The stones are a 15-minute walk from Asuka Station.
