The Fantasy Forest, officially known as the Tsuchiyu Cedar Colony, is located deep within the Mogami Gorge in Yamagata Prefecture. This lesser-known forest features unique 'ura-sugi' cedars, which have branches that grow downwards to withstand heavy snow. The multiple trunks branching from single roots create a mystical atmosphere. The forest is accessible via a somewhat difficult unpaved road, but a wood-chipped path makes it easy to walk once you arrive. Note that parking is limited to three cars, so plan your visit with ample time. It's a beautiful spot for nature lovers.
