Shigetsuden Hall

Overview

Located at the foot of Mt. Kajika, facing Shuzenji Temple, Shigetsuden Hall is a historic wooden structure built by Hojo Masako to mourn her son, Minamoto Yoriie, the second shogun of the Kamakura shogunate, who was assassinated in Shuzenji. It is considered the oldest wooden building in Izu. Inside, you'll find a rare Zen-style wooden seated statue of Shaka Nyorai, a designated prefectural cultural property. The hall is easily accessible from Shuzenji Onsen bus stop and offers a serene glimpse into the area's rich history.
