The Ochaya Site, also known as the former Honjin, is located near Saijo Station in Higashihiroshima. This site was once the largest Honjin (official lodging) in the area during the Edo period, serving as a crucial stop on the old Sanyo Road. Today, only the restored main gate remains, offering a glimpse into the area's rich history as a post town. Situated along the picturesque sake brewery street, it's a quick walk from JR Saijo Station. While you can't enter the site, the gate provides a great photo opportunity and a moment to reflect on the area's past. Combine your visit with a tour of the nearby Kamo Tsuru sake brewery for a deeper cultural experience. Best visited during the day to appreciate the architecture and surroundings.
