Sawa Shrine, located in Hofu City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, has a rich history as the former Sōsha (chief shrine) of Suō Province. Easily accessible near Hofu Tenmangu Shrine, Mōri Garden, and Suō Kokubun-ji Temple, it's an ideal addition to your sightseeing itinerary. The shrine is a short walk from the Mōri Garden parking area and faces the old Sanyodo road. Originally incorporating several smaller shrines in the late Meiji period, Sawa Shrine enshrines fourteen deities. Visitors can also see a monument and song inscription dedicated to Hofu native and composer Nōshō Ōmura, known for works like "The Song of Wheat and Soldiers."
