The Magai Fudo Myo-o is a striking Buddhist statue carved into a large rock face in Konan, Shiga Prefecture. This impressive 4.3-meter-tall Fudo Myo-o image, also known as the Kurumatani Fudo, dates back to the Edo period and is remarkably well-preserved. Located a short drive from Kosai Station on the JR Kusatsu Line, the site features a small parking area and a short walk through a wooded path. While the path directly to the statue's base is currently closed due to falling rocks, the statue can be easily viewed from across the valley. Visit during daylight hours for the best views and photo opportunities of this imposing and relatively modern example of a Magai Butsu.
