Tofugaura Coast, part of the Sanriku Reconstruction National Park, features a unique 3.5 km stretch of purple sand, especially beautiful in early summer when the beach roses are in bloom. This scenic spot, mentioned in ancient poems, is accessible via a 5-minute walk from Tofugaura Coast Station or a 20-minute walk from Rikuchu-Noda Station. Note that some areas are restricted due to ongoing seawall construction following tsunami damage. For the best views, visit the Hotate Tenbo observation deck, located a short walk north along Route 45 from Tofugaura Coast Station, where you can also find a path down to the beach. Ideal for a refreshing coastal walk and enjoying the natural beauty of the Sanriku coastline.
