Hirose Kasuri Center

Overview

The Hirose Kasuri Center, established in 1985, showcases the region's textile heritage, particularly Hirose Kasuri, a style of weaving that began around 1824. Using unique stencils, artisans hand-weave large-patterned designs with varying shades of indigo. Visitors can explore exhibits and purchase traditional crafts, including Yawata ware, Hirose Washi paper, and Izumo forged items. A hands-on indigo dyeing experience is available by reservation. Located in Yasugi, Shimane Prefecture, the center is accessible by bus from Yasugi Station (25 minutes) or car from Yasugi IC (15 minutes). Open from 10:00 to 17:00, closed Wednesdays and during the New Year holidays (December 28 to January 4).
