Oyunuma Pond, a former explosion crater from the eruption of Mt. Hiyoriyama, is a unique natural attraction in Noboribetsu. This gourd-shaped pond, about 1 km in circumference, features surface temperatures of 40-50°C and depths reaching 130°C. Visitors can witness the impressive scale of the geothermal activity and enjoy the surrounding scenery. Parking is available for a fee (¥410 for cars), and the pond is accessible via a short walk from the parking area or a longer hike from Jigokudani (Hell Valley). Note that vehicles exceeding 2 meters in width cannot pass through the Kuttara Lake Park Road. The best time to visit is during the day to fully appreciate the views.
