Overview

The National Folk Toy Museum, recently renovated as a forest gallery, is located in Ueno Village, Gunma Prefecture. Easily accessible via the Nihon Chuo Bus from Shinmachi Station (120 minutes to Tone-hei bus stop, then a 5-minute walk) or by car (40 minutes from Shimonita IC, 85 minutes from Honjo-Kodama IC), this museum houses a collection of 15,000 folk toys. Visitors can enjoy exhibits like the 'Ohinagayu' diorama on the second floor and appreciate the warmth of wooden objects. With an annual attendance of 1,500, it offers a peaceful experience surrounded by nature. Open to all, it's a great place to explore traditional Japanese toys and craftsmanship.
