The Isahaya Bay Reclamation Dike Road is an 8.5 km (approx. 5.3 miles) long road that cuts straight across Isahaya Bay, connecting Isahaya City and Unzen City in Nagasaki Prefecture. Built as part of the Isahaya Bay reclamation project, this free road offers a unique driving experience with panoramic views of the Ariake Sea and the surrounding landscape. It serves as a convenient shortcut, saving about 30 minutes of travel time compared to navigating through the city. There is a parking area with restrooms and an observation deck midway, providing a spot to take photos and contemplate the controversial reclamation project. The contrasting colors of the sea on either side of the dike are particularly striking. Be aware that the road may be temporarily closed under certain conditions.
