Nitta Shrine, once known as the premier shrine of Satsuma Province, is located atop Mount Kamé, a small, turtle-shaped mountain. Dedicated to Ninigi-no-Mikoto, the shrine offers scenic views and a tranquil atmosphere amidst old-growth trees. Visitors can drive partway up the mountain, though a traditional approach involves climbing over 300 stone steps. The shrine features a main hall, an imperial messenger hall, and the nearby Enoyama Mausoleum, believed to be the final resting place of Ninigi-no-Mikoto. The shrine is especially beautiful in autumn when the maple trees along the stone steps turn vibrant colors.
