Designated as a World Cultural Heritage site in July 2015, Miike Port offers a glimpse into Japan's industrial modernization. Originally opened in 1908 as a coal shipping port, it now provides stunning sunset views over the Ariake Sea. Key attractions include Japan's only lock gate system, the retro former Nagasaki Customs Miike Branch building, and the Meiji-era crane ship "Daikongo Maru." Don't miss the "Path of Light," a twice-yearly (January and November) phenomenon where the sunset aligns perfectly through the lock gates. The Miike Port Observation Point offers guided tours (open 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM, last entry at 4:30 PM, closed Mondays). Accessible by bus from Omuta Station.
