Mount Kokushi, named after the legendary monk Musō Kokushi, is one of the tallest peaks in the Okuchichibu Mountains. Once a remote destination, improved access via the Kawakami Makioka Forest Road now allows easy car access to Daidarumi Pass. From there, a well-maintained trail (about 1 hour) leads to the summit, making it suitable for beginners. The summit offers views along the Okuchichibu main ridgeline, connecting Mount Kinpu to Mount Kobushi. The best time to visit is during clear weather for optimal views. Note that the Daidarumi Pass parking area fills up quickly on weekends.
