Nandai Temple, located in Goshogawara, Aomori Prefecture, is closely associated with the Tsushima family, the birthplace of author Osamu Dazai. The head of the family, Bunji Tsushima, donated the bell tower in 1925. Dazai himself attended Sunday school on the temple grounds as a child, where he borrowed and quietly read many books. Visitors can explore the serene temple grounds and appreciate its historical connection to one of Japan's most celebrated authors. The temple is near Dazai's childhood home, Shayokan, making it easy to visit both in one trip. The red-tiled roof of the main hall is particularly striking.
