Jigokudani Monkey Park, established in 1964, offers a unique opportunity to observe Japanese macaques, also known as snow monkeys, in their natural habitat year-round. Located in the Yokoyu River valley in northern Nagano, the park is famous for its monkeys bathing in hot springs during the winter. Visitors can reach the park via a 20-minute drive from Shinshu-Nakano IC followed by a 30-minute walk, or a 15-minute bus ride from Yudanaka Station followed by a 30-minute walk. Open year-round, the park charges an admission fee of ¥800 for adults and ¥400 for children. Be sure to wear appropriate footwear for the unpaved trails, especially during colder months.
