The Graves of Aizu Clan Retainers commemorate samurai who were dispatched from the Aizu domain to guard Rishiri Island in 1807. Tasked with defending against potential Russian incursions, many succumbed to the harsh environment and lack of supplies. There are three burial sites on Rishiri Island, including one in Kutsugata. These graves serve as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by these warriors far from their homeland. Located a 30-minute walk from Kutsugata Port, the site offers a glimpse into the history of the island and the challenges faced by those who protected it.
