The Former Mekada Family Residence, located in Iwakuni, is a preserved samurai residence of the Mekada family, who served the Kikkawa clan. Built in the mid-18th century, this historical site offers a glimpse into the life of a mid-ranking samurai family during the Edo period. Notably, the two-story structure was designed without second-floor windows on the front to avoid looking down on lords passing by. The residence features unique Iwakuni-style roof tiles. Situated within Kikkawa Park near Kintai Bridge, it's an easily accessible and free attraction, perfect for a brief visit while exploring the area. Note that only the exterior is available for viewing.
