Explore the Suo Kokuga Ruins, the former site of the Suo Province government office from the Nara and Heian periods. Excavations reveal the office complex once spread across this area. Today, the presumed location of the main government building is a park, featuring a stone monument from the Kokucho-ji Temple that stood here until the Meiji era. The inscription on the monument highlights the site's unique status as one of the few remaining Kokucho in the country. Located in Hofu, Yamaguchi Prefecture, the ruins are accessible by bus from JR Hofu Station or a short drive from the Hofu West/East IC on the Sanyo Expressway. A peaceful place to connect with ancient history.
