The Hishino Three Water Wheels in Asakura, Fukuoka, are a historic and picturesque sight. Originally constructed in 1789 to combat drought, these wooden water wheels are part of the Horikawa irrigation system and still function today, supplying water to nearby farmlands. Visitors can witness this ingenious feat of engineering in action, especially during the rice planting season from mid-June. Located near the Fujii Honey farm, the wheels are accessible via a 15-minute bus ride from Amagi Station followed by a short walk. While visiting, explore the surrounding canals and enjoy the tranquil rural scenery. Note that parking is limited near the water wheels; consider parking at the Michi-no-Eki Asakura and walking.
