Yakuen Hachiman Shrine, also known locally as "Yakou-san," is a historic shrine in Yamatokoriyama, dating back to the Nara period. Originally established as a medicinal herb garden, the shrine still features a herb garden today. Visitors can admire the beautiful architecture, including the impressive Karahafu-style worship hall, and the second oldest Komainu (guardian dog statues) in Japan. Located a short walk from both Kintetsu Koriyama and JR Koriyama stations, it's an accessible and peaceful spot to experience a bit of local history and culture. The main hall is designated as a cultural property of Nara Prefecture.
