Cape Misaki, located at the southernmost tip of the Karakuwa Peninsula in Kesennuma, Miyagi Prefecture, offers a dramatic coastal landscape. Characterized by black shale cliffs and rugged scenery, the cape is home to the magnificent Misaki Shrine. Visitors can explore the 2.4km coastline, discover unique rock formations like Yang and Yin Ponds, Samega Hana (Shark Nose), and Sarubana (Monkey Nose) along the walking trails. The Hachiseki-biki area, a wide, flat expanse of black shale also known as 'Senjojiki,' is where the shrine's deity is said to have landed. The area also features the Tsunami Experience Museum, providing insights into the region's history with tsunamis. Accessible by bus from Shishiori-Karakuwa Station or by car from Ichinoseki IC, Cape Misaki offers parking facilities.
