The Rentaro Tunnel, located in Taketa, Oita Prefecture, is a small pedestrian tunnel near the Taki Rentaro Memorial Hall. Originally a sake cellar from the Edo period, it was renovated in 1987 and named in honor of Taki Rentaro in 1992. As you walk through the 15-meter tunnel, sensors trigger the music of Taki Rentaro, including pieces like "Kojo no Tsuki" (The Moon over the Ruined Castle) and "Hana" (Flower). The tunnel is a short walk from Bungo-Taketa Station and offers a unique, slightly retro experience. It's a great addition to a stroll through the castle town, especially when visiting the Taki Rentaro Memorial Hall and nearby shops.
