Seki Koji Temple, located in Minamiuonuma City, Niigata Prefecture, is a historic temple known for the legend of the miso barrel that protected the Great Prajna Sutra during a fire in the Sengoku period. The temple is accessible via a 3-minute drive from Ishiuchi Station on the JR Joetsu Line or 7 minutes from the Shiozawa Ishiuchi IC on the Kanetsu Expressway. Visitors can explore the beautiful gardens and the main hall, and even sample the temple's famous miso. Zazen meditation and sutra copying are available by reservation for ¥1,500 (or ¥1,800 with matcha tea). The temple is open from 9 AM to 4 PM daily and offers free admission. Parking is available for 15 cars.
