Shunrantei is a beautifully restored 200-year-old samurai residence in Tome, Miyagi Prefecture, open to the public since 1990. Functioning as a free rest area that can accommodate up to 80 people, it features a traditional irori (sunken hearth) and a charming tea corner. The name "Shunrantei" comes from the "Shunran-cha" (Spring Orchid Tea) served here, a special tea traditionally offered on auspicious occasions, similar to cherry blossom tea. A visit offers a glimpse into local history and a relaxing break in a historical setting.
