Taniguchi Choeido is a traditional Japanese confectionery shop located along the former Tokaido road, about a 15-minute walk from Ishibe Station on the JR Kusatsu Line. Known for its Ishibe Taiko monaka, a sweet bean-paste filled wafer, it's a great spot to sample local flavors. During the winter months (December onwards), don't miss their popular strawberry daifuku, featuring large strawberries and plenty of white bean paste. Arrive early in the afternoon, as they often sell out. This shop offers a taste of classic Japanese sweets in a nostalgic setting.
