Akirakuni Shrine, affectionately known as "Yuasa no Omiya-san," is a revered Shinto shrine in Yuasa, Wakayama, the birthplace of soy sauce. Founded by Sakanoue no Tamuramaro, the shrine's main deities include Ōkuninushi and Susanoo. Visitors can admire the distinct architectural styles of the Honden (main hall), Haiden (worship hall), and Norito-den (liturgy hall), with the Haiden showcasing an impressive ancient design. The shrine is particularly lively during its annual Grand Festival on October 18th, featuring a procession of 25 mikoshi (portable shrines), horse riders, samurai processions, and women in Heian-era costumes. Don't miss the Wakayama Prefecture-designated Intangible Folk Cultural Property, the "Sanmen Shishi" lion dance. Parking is available.
