Kirishima Shrine, located in the central part of Kirishima Town, is an ancient shrine with a history dating back to the age of gods. It has been relocated several times due to volcanic eruptions. The shrine is known for its solemn atmosphere, with towering old cedar trees. Built in the 6th century, it enshrines Ninigi-no-Mikoto, the grandson of Amaterasu Omikami, who was ordered to rule this country. According to the myth of Tenson Korin, Ninigi-no-Mikoto received the three sacred treasures and descended to Mount Takachiho with seven accompanying gods and one guide. The shrine is accessible by bus from Kirishima Jingu Station (15 minutes). It offers barrier-free facilities, including wheelchair rentals, wheelchair-accessible slopes and toilets, and diaper changing stations. The shrine was founded in 370 AD.
