Located within the Morioka District Court, the Ishiwari-zakura (Stone-Splitting Cherry Tree) is a remarkable sight. This Edo higan cherry tree, estimated to be over 360 years old, grows out of a crack in a massive granite rock. Witness the tree's incredible life force as it bursts forth from the stone. The best time to visit is mid-April to late April to see the cherry blossoms in full bloom. The tree is a short 20-minute walk from Morioka Station. This natural monument is a must-see for any visitor to Morioka.
