The Former Kusatsu River, also known as Tenjogawa (Ceiling River), is a unique historical site in Kusatsu, Shiga Prefecture. Once a river flowing above ground level due to repeated flooding and levee construction, it has now been transformed into Kusatsu River Trace Park (de Ai Hiroba). Located a short walk from JR Kusatsu Station, the park features walking paths, green spaces, and cherry trees, making it a pleasant spot for a stroll, especially during cherry blossom season. Visitors can still see remnants of the former river, including a tunnel that once ran beneath it, near the Kusatsu Honjin. The park offers free parking for the first hour, making it easily accessible for a quick visit.
