Lake Notoro, located in Abashiri, Hokkaido, is a 35km circumference lagoon separated from the Sea of Okhotsk by a sandbar. It's a treasure trove for scallops, whelk, and surf clams, and a popular spot for clam digging from spring to summer (with designated areas). In autumn (around September), the lake's edge transforms into a vibrant crimson carpet due to the coral grass (Akkeshi-so) colony. Easily accessible, it's a 2-minute walk from Ubaranai Station. Visit in the fall to witness the stunning coral grass or enjoy clam digging during warmer months. The lake offers picturesque views and a chance to connect with nature.
