Magome Pass

Overview

Magome Pass, situated on the historic Nakasendo trail between Magome-juku and Tsumago-juku, offers a scenic hiking experience through the Kiso Valley. This mountain pass marks the border between Nagano and Gifu prefectures, providing a glimpse into Japan's old post-towns. The trail, approximately 8 kilometers long, takes about 3 hours to walk, with varying degrees of difficulty depending on the direction. The pass itself features teahouses and remnants of the old road, though the views from the summit are limited due to dense trees. Best visited during the milder seasons, the pass offers a tranquil escape into nature and a chance to explore a well-preserved section of the Nakasendo.
